A local Indian court has ordered Telenor, a majority shareholder in Indian mobile operator Uninor, to take part in 2G spectrum bidding only with the existing venture, according to local reports.
On a petition of Unitech, its partner in Uninor, the district court of Gurgaon in Haryana, restrained Telenor from ?participating, negotiating, engaging in or financially being interested in the auction processes conducted by the government/government agencies for fresh allotment of licences/spectrum, other than through [Unitech Wireless]?.
Unitech owns 32.75% in Unitech Wireless, which operates under the name Uninor, and Norwegian group Telenor owns the rest.
Telenor has now moved the issue to a high court and hopes for a further decision by September 20. India?s spectrum auction ? which follows the cancellation of 122 licences by the country?s supreme court ? is planned to begin from November 12. GTB
