CLINTON, Iowa ? The Mount Mercy women?s basketball team might want to think about wearing its road blues during its upcoming homestand after the 15th-ranked Mustangs got their 10th straight win away from home, defeating Ashford, 69-58, in Midwest Collegiate Conference action on Wednesday at Kehl Arena.
Mount Mercy is a perfect 7-0 on the road in conference play this season, and hasn?t lost away from Hennessey Recreation Center since Nov. 26 at the Radisson Roseville Classic. The Mustangs (18-7, 10-3 MCC) have lost three straight at home, however, but can end that dubious streak with a win against Waldorf this weekend.
Mount Mercy shot 55 percent from 3-point range (11-of-20) in Wednesday?s win and outrebounded Ashford, 30-26. Senior guard Emily Greiner scored a game-high 25 points and knocked down five more treys to give her 79 this season, which is tied for fourth on Mount Mercy?s single-season chart. She is second in school history with 239 triples and currently ranks 12th all-time with 1,445 points.
Senior guards Laura Lippert and Micha Mims each hit three 3-pointers and joined Greiner in double figures. Lippert had 14 points, while Mims finished with 12. Mims also collected seven rebounds and three steals Lippert blocked three shots and senior guard Becca Lampe dished out five assists.
There were three Saints in double digits, led by Courtney Panus? 17 points. Gaby ayon chipped in 12 points, Patricia Ramos 11. Panus and Deana Bledsoe snagged six rebounds apiece and Madison Wagner handed out six assists for Ashford (9-15, 5-8 MCC).
Mount Mercy, still two games back of league-leading and ninth-ranked Grand View (20-5, 12-1 MCC), hosts Waldorf (6-17, 4-9 MCC) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Hennessey Rec Center.
