These days, going for birth control measures is prevalent among women, especially among the teenagers, primarily for their safety purposes. There are a lot of options to prevent conception. Though most women prefer the usage of contraceptive pills for immediate help, there are a group of women who are in favor of the Birth Control Ring. It?s a small flexible ring that is roughly about two inches in diameter inserted into the vagina. Although doctors have declared it?s safe to use this ring for birth control measures, this approach is not advisable for women who already have existing medical issues. The birth control ring is a hormonal ring that functions by releasing a couple of hormones namely estrogen and progestin in the women?s body. These hormones primarily prevent ovulation and thin out the outer lining of uterus. This ultimately prevents the eggs from implanting itself in the uterus and thickens the cervical mucus, thus preventing the sperm from passing into the uterus.
For ladies who use the birth control ring, it?s advisable to discard the ring if it has been used consecutively for a period of three weeks. And if the ring is removed and kept outside for more than three hours anytime during the course of three weeks, there is a possibility that the ring may become less effective and may not function well. In such a scenario, it would be better to go for any other contraceptive measures. Advantages There are several advantages of using a birth control ring. This method is highly beneficial for women who don?t like gulping a pill every time they are in need of it, as the ring just needs to be inserted once a month. The ring is equally effective as the contraceptive pills plus you can also save yourself from over dosage of drugs. The rings don?t cause any extra pain during periods. And they result in shorter, pain-free periods which can be a relief for ladies who are anemic. The birth control ring helps to prevent ectopic pregnancy as it curbs the reproductive stage of ovulation. And by preventing ectopic pregnancy, it also minimizes the risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer. It can eliminate or reduce the inflammation and pain in the pelvis region which can otherwise cause ovarian cysts or benign breasts. Disadvantages A common fear among the women who use rings is that they feel it may fall out or it can?t be protectable against sexually transmitted diseases. The former can be addressed by reinserting it again while the latter remains to be a concern. When compared with other contraceptive measures, the usage of a birth control ring has several disadvantages. Some of the common but not-so-serious disadvantages include vaginal irritation, breast tenderness, weight gain, nausea and vomiting, dizziness or mild headache, mood swings, changes in the menstrual cycle, and abdominal bloating. However, these issues are only for relatively new users and this will be resolved after a couple of months of usage. However, the usage of a birth control ring carries some threatening risks as well. There are chances that it may cause blood clots, hypertension, and pancreatitis. In the worst case, it may even cause breast cancer, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, heart attack or liver cancer (although it?s very rare). However, women who stand a higher risk of suffering from such ailments are those who are addicted to alcohol and drugs, ladies who are obese and those who have a history of cardiovascular diseases in their family.
