Wife and I went out riding this morning and went into some unfamiliar areas to ride today and on the way back, we went through a water hole that was a little to deep.

As soon as she stopped moving, we shut it down and went and got some help. The guys that helped us out, took out the spark plugs and gently turned it over to get the water out....put the plugs back in and while it did manage to start back up, it then wouldnt start back up as there was a clicking noise ( sounds like its coming from the fuse box ) which would then cuase the lights to flicker. Tried jumping it, no luck. Tried a few more times to start it, but again....no luck.

So, now that its back home, what are the steps that need to be taken so no damage will occur.

oil change ( s ) ? (the guys that helped us out told us to run cheap oil through it a couple of times, what kind of oil?)
spark plugs
how do we get any mud out of the air filter area that may have gotten into the tube?

Did they drain the air box? Is it Hydro locked? Take the plug out and check it out again. Take the air filter out and wash it and take the intake tube off and wash the air box. than clean the TB and tube out. More than likely have to take the belt cover off and clean the clutch out. Change the oil let run and change again with cheap oil that you pick. ( Some put diesel fuel in where the oil is and let run for min to help clean the mud and water out) Than fill with good oil and hope it all last. some do and some dont.

air box was drained and air filter was taken out to let dry.

Hydro locked ?

what is in the rear of the vehicle that would also dump water when its trying to be started ? That seems to be empty now....but is there any way to clean from the air filter back as I know there is sand / mud in the tube.

Tried starting it again and something is still to wet that wont let it start as when you put the key in the second position, you hear a clicking noise. I will take the air compressor and try blowing some things dry and see if that helps.

For the cheap oil.....does it matter what type ?

Thanks for the help so far.

Hydro locked is when your cyliders are full of water which makes it impossible to turn over. Pull your plugs and turn it over again to ensure this is not the case. It is very probable to cause engine damage when you hydro lock a motor. Chances are you will bend a connecting rod or worse. Not sure where the CVT (Belt) exhaust is one the comander but that is probably what is dumping water out the back.

If there was still water in the intake tube it could of sucked it in Causing it to Hydro lock the motor And maybe the clicking sound you're getting is from it being hydro- locked and it's not letting it turnover therefore just click click click? I am just asking as I am not there to here it.

Getting paid to do this.

Oh as far as oil go to the dollar store or where ever and grab the cheapest stuff you see. First change let it run a little and drain. And repeat if the oil is milky looking.

after it was pulled from the water, plugs were taken out and whatever water that was there, was blown out through the spark plug holes , plugs were put back in and it did start back up and run, but then that clicking noise started, and it happens when you turn it over to the first position and havent pressed the start button. When the clicking noise is going, the headlights flicker also. When it started this issue with the clicking and the lights flickering, it never started again. The noise sounds like its coming from the fuse box and I opened that up, took out each fuse, use the air compressor ( all were dry ) and put the fuses back in. When I would take each fuse out, I would try and start it.....and eventually when I pulled the 5a fuse , the clicking noise stopped and in looking at the fuse panel diagram, the 5a fuse that stops clicking when pulled is the fuel pump.

Oil has been drained and it was a nice green color.....new ( cheap ) oil has not been tried yet as still unable to start it up.
